![]() ![]() I was a bit worried that I had heard the Yankees tied to only one name for the majority of the spring, New York prep SS Sammy Stafura, who ended up going 43rd overall to the Reds. Clemson lefty reliever Ryan Ammons (NR) has an above-average fastball with good shape and enough feel to be a middle reliever. Virginia LHP Connelly Early (NR) should have been in my rankings and was in Rounds 5-6 in my notes with a good feel of average stuff. Canisius RHP Matt Duffy (274) has nice command and the shape of a solid-average arsenal. Wright State SS Justin Riemer (119) could be a find as a mid-major pick to click who missed most of the season with a torn ACL. Georgia Tech 2B Kristian Campbell (186) is an above-average runner with contact skills but will also need a swing adjustment to tap into his raw power. Call is a plus-plus runner with some questions on his polish and hit tool. Anderson is a switch-hitting potential shortstop with a balanced hit/power combo with every tool average to above. He'll need more polish but has an impact upside. Zanetello was one of the best athletic testers in this class, not just for his foot and bat speed, but also how explosive he is and how he can create such bat speed with limited hand movement. The Red Sox have been leaning more into prep position players with upside in recent years, and Nazzan Zanetello (64), Antonio Anderson (72) and Phoenix Call (275) fit that profile this year. He's an above-average defender who can easily stick behind the plate, and while I think his hand placement/path needs a tweak in pro ball, the tools are there for solid-average offensive output. Texas RHP Tanner Witt (73 late-first talent out of HS who returned from Tommy John surgery this year and things never clicked) is headed back to school and prep SS Kollin Ritchie (293 powerful left-handed hitter who hasn't faced much top pitching) is another tough sign who I don't expect will sign.īoston had some nice fortune as New Jersey prep product Virginia C Kyle Teel (7) made it to the Red Sox's 14th overall pick. Teddy Sharkey (288 Coastal Carolina reliever with a plus fastball that sits 93-95 mph), Zach Fruit (283 Troy righty up to 99 mph), Jacob Cravey (NR low-90s heater with good shape) and Riley Cooper (NR low-90s LSU lefty was postseason hero). The other pitchers the O's took were more relief or depth types. ![]() Mac Horvath (67 22-year-old with plus speed and power but contact ability limits) and Jake Cunningham (111 I projected him to the Orioles due to his plus power/speed combo at 6-foot-4) fit that traditional Orioles mold a bit better. Third-rounder Tavian Josenberger (122) and 10th-rounder Matthew Etzel (230) are somewhere between Bradfield and the O's typical type, as plus runners and center fielders with more well-rounded offensive skill sets after both transferred for 2022 Josenberger from Kansas to Arkansas and Etzel to Southern Miss from a Texas JC. He can make contact at an above-average rate and make the most of his speed, but his power is more in the 5-10 homers and hopefully lots of gappers type of hitter. After years of targeting position players only and leaning into power-first profiles with as much athleticism as was available, the O's took three pitchers in the top 118 picks in Jackson Baumeister (68), Kiefer Lord (69) and Levi Wells (167) along with a speed merchant with their first pick in Enrique Bradfield (12).īradfield isn't the typical boring college pick in that he has top-of-the-line 80-grade speed, is also 80-grade on the bases, and if he isn't 80-grade in center field then he's a 70. ![]() NL team recaps | Ranking the top 300 draft prospects | Takeaways AL EastĪs I covered in my initial draft takeaways, the Orioles appeared to shift their focus in this draft to fit where the team is right now, even if the actual behind-the-scenes adjustment might have been more subtle.
